Reducing Water Consumption in Irrigated Tropical Crop Farms in a context of water scarcity.

Farm challenges

Water conservation, more sustainable management, and the use of ICTs in agriculture, especially in irrigated agriculture, which should be promoted to ensure improved resource efficiency through technologies applicable to the use of reclaimed water in the agricultural sector.

Assistance / Boost program

To this end, the use of reclaimed water is studied at three different concentrations: 100% reclaimed water, 50% reclaimed water and 50% well water, and 100% well water with soil characteristics.

Innovative features of the initiative / solution

  • Impact of the use of reclaimed wastewater on soil structure and microbiota and on the physiological parameters of avocado and mango.
  • Evaluation of different irrigation systems to reduce the water footprint of avocado.
  • Impact of the use of reclaimed wastewater on the chemical quality of groundwater in the aquifer.
  • Dissemination of results.
