IMPACT

Environmental sustainablity (CO2, water, energy)

Farms participating in the LIFE AGROasesor and LIFE AGROgestor projects developed and implemented digital decision-support tools at plot level, as well as a collective management platform incorporating sustainability indicators.

Within this framework, one participating farm transitioned from uniform-rate to variable-rate fertilisation by using satellite imagery and soil analyses to calculate crop nutrient requirements more accurately, optimising input use and improving profitability.

Another participating farm adopted GIS tools and satellite imagery to monitor crops and subdivide fields into management zones, advancing towards a fully digital system for record-keeping, traceability and daily decision support.

Farm challenges

Limited precision in input application and crop monitoring, resulting in inefficiencies and difficulties in managing farm data and traceability.

Innovative features of the initiative / solution

  • Plot-level decision-support tools based on satellite data and soil analysis.
  • Integration of sustainability indicators into farm management.
  • Collective digital platforms enabling benchmarking and shared learning.

Results obtanied

  • Optimised input use through variable-rate application.
  • Improved crop monitoring and zoning.
  • Enhanced farm profitability and data-driven decision-making.

Lessons learned

Precision agriculture tools are most impactful when embedded in integrated digital platforms that combine agronomic, economic and environmental information.
